Angus Carers Centre and Arbroath & District Community Council recently held a joint event on Self-Directed Support (SDS). This was supported by a range of local provider organisations, including housing, children’s services, personal care, older people and mental health organisations. Helen Wallace, Arbroath & District Community Council said “This was our first joint event with another organisation. We’ve had people come to us about Self-Directed Support who are worried about it, which is why we held the event”.
Lesley Simpson, Short Breaks Development Worker said “It was a great opportunity for carers, members of the public and organisations alike to find out what’s in the area, and how to go about getting the support that is right for them. I’d like to thank the organisations for coming along on the day. It can be overwhelming for people to negotiate the social care field, particularly when they are dealing with challenging caring situations, so having information all under one roof can make a big difference”.
Continuing to help people access information will be ongoing and registered carers can pop in to the One Stop Shop at the Angus Carers Centre. Lesley will also be out and about throughout Angus, including sheltered housing complexes, local libraries and other venues. No appointment is needed for these sessions and anyone interested in finding out about Self-Directed Support or Short Breaks for carers can pop along. For more information on the dates and venues, please contact Lesley on 01241 439157.
